Christ in the Tetons by Chase Lewis is a compilation work comprised from several different pieces of art coming from the around the turn of the 20th century. The original painting takes place in Jerusalem portraying Christ offering up the great intercessory prayer (as recorded in John 17). The Teton Mountain range was skilfully added in to show the homeland of the artist Chase Lewis. Although Christ did not offer up his intercessory prayer at the Tetons, he is symbolically there in prayer for us no matter where we are at in the world. The Tetons were chosen as the backdrop to not only represent the homeland of the artist but, that it is in high places and often through prayer we can and will find the Lord Jesus Christ.
This painting is a true masterpiece and not only depicts the hope we have because of Christ but, that it is in his temples (or mountaintops) that Christ will be there waiting to deliver us from all of our troubles, sorrow, and doubt. May these few short verse of scripture of the Savior speaking in John 17 stand as a testament that Christ is there for all of us.
“These words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; glorify thy Son, that thy Son also may glorify thee: As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him. And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.”
